Chok Kradin Waterfall
Thong Pha Phumi District, Kanchanaburi
The Emerald-Blue Valley Cascade with a Mineral-Rich Pool Tucked away deep inside the misty valleys of Thong Pha Phumi, Chok Kradin Waterfall is a breathtaking hidden gem that flows beautifully all year round. Standing at an impressive 34 meters tall, this single-tiered waterfall originates from natural freshwater springs on Mount I-Phu, located within a historic tungsten mining area.
The name “Chok Kradin” is a Thai adaptation of the original Burmese phrase “Kok Kradan”—where Chok (or Kok) means “rock” and Kradin (or Kradan) means “waterfall.” Together, it perfectly translates to “the waterfall that rushes through the rocky cliffs.” Perched at 727 meters above sea level, the waterfall creates a spectacular plunge pool known for its shimmering turquoise-blue water. Swimming here feels just like bathing in a natural mineral spring!
- Visiting Tip: Early January is one of the best times to visit, offering clear skies, crisp mountain air, and beautifully cool weather.
- Safety Note: The pool has a sandy bottom but drops to a depth of about 3 to 4 meters at its center.
Hitting the road!
Chok Kradin Waterfall is located along the legendary mountain route to Ban Etong, conquering over 300 curves. The entrance is on your right, 5 km before the village, followed by a 2.8 km paved road. SUVs or high-performance vehicles are ideal. Sedans can pass with a maximum of 2 passengers, but entry is strongly discouraged during heavy rain due to a notoriously steep uphill climb on the way back out.

Getting There & Drive Warning
Chok Kradin is located along the same legendary, winding mountain road that leads to Ban Etong (Pilok Mine), conquering over 300 sharp curves along the way. The entrance sign will be on your right, about 5 kilometers before reaching Ban Etong. From the main road, you will drive on a paved path for another 2.8 kilometers.
- Vehicle Compatibility: Motorcycles, SUVs, and high-performance vehicles are ideal.
- For Sedans/City Cars: Standard sedans can pass, but it is highly recommended to have no more than 2 passengers in the car.
- ⚠️ Important Safety Advisories: 1. The drive into the waterfall is relatively easy, but the drive out features a notoriously steep and challenging uphill section that requires good driving skills and vehicle momentum. 2. If it is raining heavily and the roads are wet, driving into the waterfall area is strongly discouraged for standard cars.
