Mon Bridge

(Uttamanusorn Bridge)
Sangkhlaburi District, Kanchanaburi

Thailand’s Longest Wooden Bridge & The Golden Thread of Faith Spanning an impressive 850 meters across the Songgaria River, Mon Bridge (formally named Uttamanusorn Bridge) is officially the longest handmade wooden bridge in Thailand and the second longest in the world, surpassed only by the U Bein Bridge in Myanmar. Located in the misty border district of Sangkhlaburi, this iconic landmark is far more than just a crossing—it is a living symbol of unity, faith, and community spirit.

The bridge was built through the sheer willpower and collaborative labor of the local Mon villagers. Leading this historic effort was Luang Pho Uttama, the beloved late abbot of Wat Wang Wiwekaram, who held the deep respect and faith of the entire region. The bridge was created to connect the Thai side of Sangkhlaburi with the ethnic Mon village, bringing two communities together.

🌊 A Story of Resilience

The bridge is also a testament to the strength of the local people. On July 28, 2013, following three consecutive days of torrential rain, violent flash floods rushed down the Songgaria River and tore a 30-meter gap through the bridge, which later expanded to 70 meters.

While a temporary bamboo bridge was quickly constructed to keep the communities connected, local villagers joined forces with government and military units to painstakingly rebuild the wooden structure by hand. Today, Mon Bridge stands fully restored, prouder and stronger than ever.
