The Giant Rain Tree

Mueang District, Kanchanaburi

A Living Natural Wonder and Iconic Landmark of Kanchanaburi One of the most breathtaking natural attractions in the province, The Giant Rain Tree (known locally as Chamchuri Yak) is a massive historical tree aged well over 100 years. This majestic living wonder features a trunk so wide it requires at least 10 adults holding hands to encircle it entirely.

Standing at a height of approximately 20 meters, the tree’s true marvel is its spectacular, sweeping canopy. The beautifully twisting branches spread out to create a lush green shade with a radius of 25.87 meters and an incredible overall diameter of 51.75 meters.

Its sheer size and fairytale-like aesthetic make it a must-visit photography spot. Skipping a photo with this giant is almost like missing out on Kanchanaburi itself, as it has naturally grown into an iconic symbol of the city.

Nearby Travel Highlight: On your way to the Giant Rain Tree, you can make a stop at the famous Wat Tham Mangkon Thong (The Golden Dragon Cave Temple). This revered hillside temple is internationally renowned for its sacred cave and the fascinating showcase of the “Floating Nun”—a unique cultural experience that captures the curiosity of travelers from all over the world.
