Three Pagodas Pass (Dan Chedi Sam Ong)
Sangkhlaburi District, Kanchanaburi
The Historic Western Border Landmark & Cultural Gateway to Myanmar Situated at the Thailand-Myanmar border, Three Pagodas Pass marks the westernmost edge of Thailand in Sangkhlaburi district. For centuries, this rugged mountain pass served as a strategically vital military route during the ancient wars between Siam (Thailand) and Burma (Myanmar). Today, the pass has transformed from a historic battleground into a peaceful border checkpoint and a vibrant cultural marketplace where Thai and Burmese traditions intertwine.

📜 The Story Behind the Three Pagodas
In ancient times, this site was known as “Hin Sam Kong” (Three Piles of Stones). Travelers and warriors would traditionally pile stones here to pay respect and pray for a safe journey before stepping into Burmese territory.
Later in 1929, Phra Sri Suwan Khiri, the respected governor of Sangkhlaburi, led local residents to formalize this sacred spot by building three small, whitewashed pagodas over the stone piles. These iconic structures still stand today as a poignant symbol of peace and border heritage.
