Wat Hin Thaen Lam Phachi

Dan Makham Tia District, Kanchanaburi

The Magnificent Glittering White Crystal Junk Boat Temple Established around 1938 during the reign of King Rama VIII, Wat Hin Thaen Lam Phachi has grown into one of Kanchanaburi’s most visually striking and spiritually significant temples. The crown jewel of this sanctuary is the famous “Ubosot Samphao Kaeo Roi Lan” (The 100-Million-Baht Crystal Junk Boat Ordination Hall), flanked by the sacred Anantanakkharat-Lakshmi barges.

The grand ordination hall is finished in pure white and encrusted with countless diamond-like crystals that sparkle brilliantly under the tropical sun. The entire hall sits atop a massive junk boat structure, built over a vivid turquoise-blue courtyard that mimics the sea. This creates an optical illusion as if a celestial crystal ship is floating across the ocean to guide souls to spiritual awakening.

The 5 Ultimate Spiritual Highlights (The “Sai Mu” Guide)

For visitors looking to make wishes, receive blessings, or capture beautiful photographs, the temple features a well-organized 5-point walking route:

  • Point 1: The Golden Giant of Somdej To Located right in front of the crystal ship, visitors are welcomed by a towering, magnificent golden statue of Somdej Phra Phutthacharn (To Phrahmaramsi), one of Thailand’s most revered historic monks.
  • Point 2: The Main Assembly & 84 Monks Walk across the turquoise courtyard into the main hall to pay respects to the principal Buddha image, Phra Phuttha Rattanamanee Sri Sothorn. The hall also houses 84 incredibly lifelike, full-scale wax sculptures of famous Thai monks.
  • Point 3: Thao Wessuwan (God of Wealth & Protection) Exiting the hall and turning right toward the rear exit, you will find two powerful statues of Thao Wessuwan. On-site staff are available to guide you on how to offer red cloths, incense, and candles to pray for fortune, protection, and prosperity.
  • Point 4: The Naga King Shrine Just outside the gates lies the temple’s newest blessing site, dedicated to the majestic Naga King (Nakkharat).
  • Point 5: Luang Pho Thanjai (The Instant Blessing Buddha) Heading toward the eastern pavilion, you will find Luang Pho Thanjai, a sacred Buddha image that has guarded the temple since construction began. Visitors flock here to pray for financial success, good luck, or to find lost belongings.
    • Local Custom: If wishes come true, locals traditionally return to make an offering of boiled eggs ending with the number 9 (such as 99 or 199 eggs).

Sacred Symbols & Rich History

The spiritual design of the temple is deeply rooted in Buddhist philosophy and Thai royal heritage:

  • The Suphannahong (Swan Boat) Foundation: Symbolizes the Buddha carrying humanity across the ocean of samsara (the cycle of rebirth) toward enlightenment.
  • The 3 Great Kings Pavilion: A special shrine honors three legendary Thai monarchs: King Naresuan the Great, King Taksin the Great, and King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V). Local folklore holds that all three kings historically marched their armies through this very temple ground.
  • Chinese New Year Festival: If you visit during the Lunar New Year, the temple hosts a grand 9-day, 9-night annual festival featuring spectacular night-time illumination displays over the crystal ship.
